THINKING ENVIRONMENT FOUNDATION COURSE

Interested in groups and the Thinking Environment?

The Foundation Course is a two-day programme allowing for maximum practice, thinking time and appreciation. You will be introduced to the Ten Components of a Thinking Environment™ and their eight group applications.

Together with participants we will explore Thinking Pairs, Dialogue, Rounds, Open Discussion, Meetings, the Council and Facilitation. Any of these applications will help you turn groups and organisations into Thinking Environments.

You will also see one Thinking Partnership demonstration in order to consider its importance for leaders in creating Thinking Environment cultures.

No particular preparation is necessary, however, if you have time you might like to read (or listen to) one of Nancy Kline’s books: “Time To Think”, “More Time To Think”, or her newest, “The Promise That Changes Everything”. The Promise - Time to Think

It would be good if you could do this “Online Assessment” on the Time To Think website prior to coming on the course. Thank you!

Just wanted to share that R and I conducted our first Thinking Pairs meeting on Friday. It was our first chance to deploy The Thinking Environment in our work since the course so we were both looking forward to giving it a try. Within 15mins we had weighed up the issue at hand and had a clear path forward. Fair to say was a pretty transformative experience for both of us and something we’re committed to incorporating into our work together from now on!
I came onto the course seeking a practical framework that would help me work better with and for others - but I was surprised to leave with a better understanding and appreciation of myself and the things I have to bring to the table. What I learned and experienced during those two days with yourself, and the other course participants gave me much to reflect upon - and I can honestly say I feel much more confident within myself and assured more generally with the path I’m choosing to walk.
As a direct result of going on your course, a few days later I won a whole project to develop high level strategy over the course of seven engagement workshops for the organisation’s senior people.
It was enormously helpful to frame one of the ‘offers’ in the proposal in terms of the Thinking Environment. Also the “Information” element got me thinking about how to support that aspect of my work more fully - so as part of the proposal I constructed a question tree to play back and summarise their research brief and all its components on one page, both to drive the project as a whole and each of the workshop designs.
We are five workshops in, “Thinking Environment” has entered the language, everyone has been incredibly impressed and excited by the difference this process has made to their ability to think and work together.
My ENFP personality that decides largely through feelings and intuition served me extremely well in making a snap decision to come on your course!
I can report that today I have successfully used the language of the Thinking Environment 10 Components in ‘contracting’ how we would work in the workshop on Action Learning I was facilitating. I also used opening and closing rounds exactly as we practiced them and facilitated a Time To Think Council as an example of a ‘different’ way of running an Action Learning set. It felt a bit clunky (not least because we’d not had the benefit of 2 days of work in a TE to understand and practice the 10 Components ) BUT the feedback was awesome - they really liked it! So a great success!
